The Story

Chris Walker, the CEO of Secret Labs, has been a long-time fan of technology watches, so when he and his incubation company created the popular Netduino open-source hardware platform, he began to think some of the core technology he had created could be the foundation of smartwatch targeted towards makers. After some initial discussions with Marc de Vinck, the former Director of Product Development at MAKE about possibly working together on a maker smartwatch, Walker's company eventually partnered with the watch design company House of Horology to create the Agent smartwatch.

The Agent smartwatch debuted on Kickstarter in May 2013, and by the time the campaign was finished it had exceeded $1 million in pledges from 5,500 backers. The first Agent watch comes in a single model that will ship at an estimated retail price of $299, and currently those who missed out on the Kickstarter can reserve a watch at www.agentwatches.com for pre-orders.  The Agent will begin shipping to Kickstarter backers early April 2014. To the people who missed out on that opportunity, they may not see their watch until late spring.
